TILAMSIK Volume 10



Tilamsik: The Southern Luzon Journal of Arts and Sciences is the official, peer-reviewed journal of research of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) in the Philippines. Roughly translated in English as spark, spatter, or splatter, the journal maintains its commitment to igniting the flame of passion for transformative research undertakings, and planting seeds for lifelong learning among the CAS and SLSU faculty, students, as well as the greater community. The journal is indexed in, and published online by, the Philippine Ejournals and Google Scholar. It is published twice every academic year, with a print ISSN - 1656-1953 and an online ISSN - 2467-6209.


AIM & SCOPE

The scope of Tilamsik is broad in terms of topics covered and disciplinary perspective. Topics of interest are based on the nature of the academic programs offered in, and specialization of the faculty members of, the College of Arts and Sciences, and its external advisers. The journal seeks to contribute to the body of knowledge in natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities, more specifically in, but not limited to studies in Psychology, Communication, Mathematics, Biology, History, and English & Applied Linguistics in and about the Southern Luzon area. Submission from interested researchers not affiliated with the institution on the aforementioned topics are also welcome.

INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

1. We accept research article, book review, or scholarly essay for consideration to be published in the peer-reviewed journal. Researchers who are not affiliated with the College or University who wish to publish their work in the journal are also encouraged to submit their work in the journal.

2. An MS Word file of the research article, or the full book review or scholarly essay must be submitted to: 

tilamsikjournal@slsu.edu.ph

3. The paper(s) will be subjected to a blind peer review process. The researcher should attach an information sheet (see the downloadable MS Word file below) and a passport sized photo that is separate from the file of the research paper, book review, or scholarly essay. The research paper, book review, or scholarly paper should have no mark of identification or information about the writer. 

4. For research articles, the paper must follow this format (unless otherwise justified):
  • The extended abstract must be composed of 8000 words or less, in double spacing.
  • It should have the following basic structure:
        Abstract (composed of not more than 200 words, with a maximum of five keywords)
        Introduction (consisting of a short background of the problem, the objectives of the study, 
            a short discussion of significance, and a short discussion of the study’s scope and limitations)
        Framework of the Study (short discussion of the Theoretical and Conceptual framework/Research Paradigm)
        Methodology (short discussion of the research design, instrumentation [if any], and procedures)
        Results and Discussion (important findings; only one to two tables and/or figures may be included)
        Summary, Conclusions and Recommendations
        Literature Cited (include only the ones cited in the text of the extended abstract)

5. The journal does not charge any processing, nor publication fees. The contributor will receive two complementary print copies of the journal.

6. The journal adheres to the highest quality standard of academic publishing, and does not tolerate plagiarism. Articles accepted for review are first subjected to plagiarism checking. If an article is found to have plagiarized content, the journal editors will not subject it to review, and return it to the author. An author who submits plagiarized materials twice will be barred from ever being published in the journal.

NOTE: For qualitative studies, Discussion may be subdivided into several subheadings as answer to each research problem.
  • Citations must comply with the latest APA Referencing format (i.e. - 6th Edition). Note: see https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/664/1/ for a simple yet comprehensive guide on the APA style.
  • The journal adopts the modern outlining/ numbering method in indicating section headings (i.e. - 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0, etc...)
    The journal is also indexed in, and published online by the Philippine Ejournals (www.ejournals.ph)



    STUDENT RESEARCH

    Student research published in this journal are studies that are duly recommended by their respective departments for publication and/or those that have been recognized in local, regional, and/or international research fora. These papers are condensed versions of the original which can be read in full at the SLSU Library. The papers are likewise reviewed by a duly constituted oral examination panel composed of a chairperson (a person who specializes on the topic), and two members (either an external panel, and/or a faculty of the program). These papers undergo technical and language editing by the journal editorial board prior to publication.

    1. Program chairpersons/ Research instructors from the six programs in the College of Arts and Sciences are encouraged to submit at least two (2) studies of their students completed and defended within the academic year prior to the journal’s publication.

    2. An MS Word file of the whole thesis and its extended abstract (see guidelines below) must be submitted to tilamsikjournal@slsu.edu.ph on or before the set deadline. 

    3. The extended abstract must follow this format:
    • The extended abstract must be composed of 8000 words or less, in double spacing.
    • It should have the following basic structure:

    CALL FOR PEER REVIEWERS

    We are cordially inviting fellow academics to join our team as volunteer peer reviewers! Since we value quality above all and are keen on following international standards in academic publication in the journal articles we publish, we would like novice, emerging, and established academics to help us review articles submitted to Tilamsik for consideration for publication. 

    Please note, however, that peer reviewing in our journal, as in any reputable international journals, is a voluntary act. As much as we wish to repay your kind service on monetary terms, our very limited resources coming from our own income-generation efforts independent from the State University hinders us from doing so. However, in exchange of your generosity, we will send you a certificate of appreciation and free print copies of the journal where the article you reviewed appears.

    Main qualification: 
    Has at least one published paper in a reputable academic journal in the field of specialization. The journal where the paper is published should be one that adheres to international standards of publication, such as but not limited to blind peer review process.

    Secondary qualification: 
    Doctorate degree holder in the field of specialization or holder of at least an Assistant Professor rank in a reputable University. Part-time academics or those not working in a University may still send in their indication to be part of the team as long as s/he possesses the main qualification.

    Preferably in the following or related fields:
    Applied Linguistics, Applied Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Communication and Media Studies, Creative Writing, History, Literary & Cultural Studies, Psychology, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics) Education, HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) Education, Southeast Asian Studies

    Copyright remains to individual authors. However, by submitting their work to the journal, the authors give exclusive rights to the journal editors and/or concerned College/ University official(s) to publish their work elsewhere, but in channels appropriate and fair to them. 

    Concerns on copyright infringement may be coursed directly through the incumbent journal editors. Should there be copyright infringement complaints received, the journal editor will immediately take down the article pending investigation of the matter. As an academic institution, the College of Arts and Sciences is committed to uphold academic integrity in all its undertakings such as, but not limited to, research publications.
