CAS holds ‘Adyo’, recognizes best student researchers

Aiming to promote the culture of research among the students of College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the CAS Student Council and the CAS Office of Research and Publication held the 2016 Interdisciplinary Research Conference on March 18, 2016.

With the theme ‘Adyo: Taking Social and Scientific Research to the Next Level’, this year’s research conference featured the best student research selected through blind review of CAS research council.

Angelo Joshua C. Luciano and John Claude Renan of BS Biology were hailed best student researchers with their study ‘Aquatic Insect Diversity as Water Quality Indicator in Pagsipi-Bunggo-Camatian River, Lucban, Quezon.’

Another pair of researchers from BS Bio, Larrisse O. Lipit and Verinna Charisse B. Mangonon, bagged the third place with their study ‘Antibiotic Resistance of Salmonella in Contaminated Chicken Eggs and Poultry Environment.’

Meanwhile, Djacmar Al P. Jacela and Christel Ann D. Regulacion of Bachelor of Arts in Communication won 2nd place with their study ‘Banat-Buto: A Documentary Film on the Lives of Working Children in Tayabas, City, Quezon.’ They were also hailed as the best research presenter.

Prof. Jerry Esperanza from the University of Rizal System, Prof. Maria Portia Olenka Placino from the University of the Philippines – Diliman, and  Mr. Ronera Jose Rea, who earned his masters from the Ateneo de Manila University, served as panel of evaluators.

Winners in the conference will represent the college in the upcoming SLSU Intercollegiate Research Conference.

CAS Interdisciplinary Research Conference was first held in 2010 and it has become a tradition in the college aiming to provide a venue for students to share the findings of their research and to have a university based network among themselves. //Pelasalome Alayan
